EESHANI'S salangai pooja

Salangai Pooja is the presentation of bells by the teacher to the student. It is performed when the student has a good grasp of taala (rhythm), sollu kattu (Bharatnatyam bol) and mudras (gestures). Eeshani will work on bhaava (expression) from this point (Salangai Pooja) onwards making her training complete for the arangetram.

Eeshani Buddi is a fifteen year old, 10th grade student at Appleton North High School in Wisconsin. She is a keen Bharatanatyam dance student who has been learning this ancient Indian classical dance form since August 2010. She has participated in group and solo performances at cultural and diversity events in North-East Wisconsin. She is training diligently under the tutelage of her Guru Lavanyaa Surendar and is excited to be completing her Bharatnatyam training in 2020.

Eeshani has been learning piano from the age of 4 and is a student of Mr. Michael Rivers. She trained as a vocalist in Hindustani classical music from 2008-2015 with Guru Shreemayee Kar. She sings Alto in both the Varsity Treble and exclusive North Choir at Appleton North High School.

As a member of Youth In Government from 2017 to 2019, she focused on writing bills in the legislative branch. Her proposed bill for the government to provide free menstrual products to all those who cannot afford them was passed by both the houses and signed by the Youth In Government’s Wisconsin Governor in 2018.

Eeshani has actively worked to improve her school and community through service. She founded the Interact Club at Appleton North high in early 2018 during her freshman year of high school.

Eeshani has been playing tennis from the age of six and is a singles player on the Appleton North high school tennis team. Her hobbies include reading, painting, singing, and swimming.

Eeshani is excited that the Salangai Pooja is a milestone in her training as a Bharatnatyam dancer bringing her closer to her desired goal of arangetram/graduation.
